Privacy Policy.
I'm a working lineman, and I write these apps myself. Digital Apprentice LLC is my company, and this policy is issued by it. Where this page says "I" or "my", that means Digital Apprentice LLC.
I don't collect any personal information (your name, address, telephone number, Social Security Number or email address) unless you hand it to me yourself, like when you send feedback from inside the app.
Anything you do give me stays with me. I don't share it, I don't sell it, and I don't hand it to anyone outside Digital Apprentice LLC.
Sponsor measurement
Lineman's Calculator is free because a handful of sponsors pay for a card on the landing screen and a promo in the menu. To tell a sponsor what they got for their money, the app counts how many times a card was actually on screen and how many times someone tapped it. Here is exactly what that involves, because you should not have to take my word for it.
What is recorded
- Which sponsor card was shown, on which surface, and whether it was the card the screen opened on or one you swiped to.
- Whether you tapped it.
- The calendar day it happened, and the app version and build.
- A random identifier created the first time the app runs, so repeat views by one device are not counted as separate people.
What is not recorded
- No name, email, phone number or address.
- No location of any kind.
- No advertising identifier (no IDFA on iOS, no advertising ID on Android), and nothing derived from your hardware.
- No precise times. The day is as specific as it gets.
- Nothing you type into a calculator. Your voltages, spans and conductor sizes never leave your phone.
That random identifier is not your device's identifier. The app makes it up, it means nothing outside this app, and deleting and reinstalling gives you a new one. I store it as a short one-way hash, which is how I can count how many linemen saw a card without knowing who any of you are.
This is not tracking. It covers this app and nothing else. I never combine it with data from other apps, websites or data brokers, never use it to target advertising at you, and never sell or share it. That is also why the app never shows you an App Tracking Transparency prompt: there is no tracking to ask your permission for.
The counts go to a server I run at linemanapps.com, in batches, when the app starts or goes to the background. If you have no signal they sit on your phone until you do. A send that fails is never shown to you and never interrupts what you are doing.
What a sponsor gets from me is a monthly total: how many times their card was shown, how many linemen saw it, and how many taps it got. They never get anything about an individual person or an individual phone.
